Job Summary

Description

Own the technical and delivery execution of Tomball Controls generator enclosure and fuel tank projects. From estimate support and submittals through delivery, site support, and closeout. You’ll be the technical face of Tomball Controls to customers and contractors: meeting deliveries on site, inspecting equipment, resolving punch items, answering installer questions, and keeping cost/schedule/quality on track. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who is personable, organized, and comfortable running all aspects of the project.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-award & Estimating

  • Collaborate with Sales on takeoffs, estimates, and technical clarifications; identify risks and value-add options.

Engineering & Submittals

  • Assemble and annotate drawing packages (one-lines, GA layouts, penetrations, P&IDs) and coordinate approvals.
  • Generate BOMs and coordinate long-lead materials with Supply Chain.

Project Execution

  • Build and own the project plan (scope, schedule, cost, risks, quality gates).
  • Coordinate with Production to ensure manufacturability, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Maintain proactive communication with customers and internal stakeholders; publish status updates.

Field / Site Leadership

  • Meet deliveries at job sites; inspect for transport damage; perform ship-loose inventory; document with photos/reports.
  • Serve as the on-site technical point for riggers/installers/GCs; answer fit-up, rigging, anchorage, penetrations, wiring, and sequencing questions.
  • Address minor quality issues/punch-list items and coordinate any rework.
  • Support start-up/commissioning and warranty triage as needed.

Change, Cost, and Closeout

  • Identify scope changes; issue RFIs/CRs; protect margin through disciplined change management.
  • Conduct post-mortems; capture as-builts, lessons learned, and standard work improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years in power generation, electrical/mechanical construction, or packaged equipment projects (generator systems, switchgear/ATS, fuel systems, data center or healthcare power preferred).
  • Proven ability to read/interpret one-lines, wiring diagrams, GA drawings, and P&IDs; comfortable leading design/constructability conversations.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams); exposure to CAD/mark-ups (AutoCAD/Bluebeam) a plus.
  • Demonstrated success running schedule/cost/quality in a customer-facing role.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for multi-week site assignments.
  • High school diploma or higher (Associate’s/Bachelor’s in EE/ME/ET or similar preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NFPA 110, NEC, UL 2200, fuel system codes, rigging/anchorage basics, and enclosure MEP interfaces.
  • Familiarity with ATS/switchgear, ventilation/HVAC for enclosures, and fuel day-tanks/polishing systems.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/service tracking platforms; Monday.com or NetSuite is a plus.
  • PMP, FE/EIT, or trade certifications are nice-to-have (not required).

Requirements

Core Competencies

  • Technical depth + clarity: Translates drawings/specs into clear site direction.
  • Ownership mindset: Bias for action; escalates risks early; closes loops.
  • Customer presence: Professional, calm under pressure, and solutions-oriented.
  • Planning & organization: Manages multiple jobs, deadlines, and stakeholders.
  • Quality & safety: Treats quality gates and safety protocols as non-negotiable.

Physical / Work Conditions

  • Prolonged computer work when in office; frequent walks and standing on manufacturing/shop floors and construction sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements on site; ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally; appropriate PPE required.

Work Location: In person

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged time spent working at a computer
  • Potential need for travel to customer locations (max 25% travel), both in and out of state.
  • Occasionally required to step onto manufacturing shop floor
  • Occasionally exposed to outside elements.
