Deputy Chief Operating Officer
Location: Dallas, TX
Overview
Our client, a rapidly growing high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure company, is seeking a Deputy Chief Operating Officer to serve as a trusted advisor and senior representative of the COO.

Based in Dallas, this highly visible role works directly with the COO, CEO, CFO, and executive leadership team to translate executive priorities into coordinated action, resolve complex cross-functional challenges, and keep critical decisions moving forward.

The ideal candidate brings executive judgment, strong analytical capabilities, and the credibility to influence senior leaders without relying on formal reporting authority.

Functional leaders retain ownership of their teams, budgets, hiring, and operating processes. The COO retains final decision rights and primary responsibility for CEO, board, and investor relationships.
Key ResponsibilitiesExecutive Partnership & Representation
  • Represent the COO in leadership meetings and cross-functional discussions, accurately communicating priorities, positions, and expectations.
  • Serve as a trusted sounding board on strategy, organizational challenges, resource tradeoffs, and business priorities.
  • Help identify, prioritize, and sequence the company’s highest-impact initiatives.
  • Translate executive direction into clear objectives, decision points, and expectations for functional leaders.
  • Provide independent recommendations by synthesizing financial, operational, and strategic input across the business.
Cross-Functional Alignment & Accountability
  • Drive follow-through on COO-sponsored priorities, including across teams outside the COO’s reporting structure.
  • Partner with senior leaders to resolve blockers, competing priorities, and interdepartmental dependencies.
  • Identify emerging risks and escalate issues requiring the COO’s attention.
  • Establish clear ownership, milestones, and follow-up for critical initiatives.
  • Take ownership of ambiguous or time-sensitive challenges requiring senior leadership coordination.
Executive Reporting & Decision Support
  • Build and maintain executive dashboards using Power BI or comparable tools.
  • Integrate information across functions to provide a clear view of business performance, initiative progress, and organizational risks.
  • Evaluate underlying data and assumptions to provide balanced, independent insights.
  • Prepare executive briefings, presentations, and recommendations.
  • Translate complex information into clear options and actionable decisions.
Governance & Business Rhythm
  • Partner with the Director, Strategy & Operations and functional leaders to align the 3-Year Strategic Plan, Annual Operating Plan, Monthly Business Reviews, and OKRs with the COO’s priorities.
  • Support effective governance forums, escalation paths, and accountability practices.
  • Help maintain a focused leadership cadence with clear objectives, decision owners, and follow-through.
  • Ensure alignment between enterprise priorities and functional execution plans.
  • Resolve cross-functional gaps while preserving functional ownership of planning and governance processes.
Special Projects & Organizational Initiatives
  • Lead discrete, COO-sponsored initiatives from initial assessment through delivery.
  • Structure unfamiliar problems, evaluate options, and engage the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Launch or stabilize high-priority initiatives before a permanent owner or team is established.
  • Recommend improvements to organizational effectiveness and operating practices that support growth.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10–15+ years of relevant experience in corporate strategy, general management, management consulting, investment banking, or business operations.
  • Experience working at or near the C-suite and advising senior executives.
  • Proven ability to represent executive leadership in high-stakes discussions with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving outcomes without direct authority.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous strategic direction into clear priorities, structured actions, and measurable results.
  • Strong financial and operational analytical skills.
  • Excellent executive communication, presentation, and synthesis capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience building and using Power BI or equivalent dashboards to support executive decisions.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Microsoft Copilot to improve research, analysis, and productivity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree.
  • Experience as a Chief of Staff, Deputy COO, or senior advisor to an executive.
  • Background in a high-growth infrastructure, cloud, HPC, AI infrastructure, or technology business.
  • Experience supporting executive governance, organizational scaling, and board-level preparation.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate combines strategic judgment with practical follow-through. They can credibly represent the COO, challenge assumptions constructively, navigate sensitive organizational issues, and bring clarity to complex decisions.

Success requires discretion, adaptability, analytical depth, and the ability to build trust across the leadership team while advancing the company’s most important priorities.
