Job Summary

The SC Center for Fathers and Families (Center) is recruiting for a full-time Development Coordinator. The Center is a faith-based nonprofit ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System that works to end father absence through educational programming, wraparound services, research and advocacy. For more than 20 years, we have created stronger, safer, and more prosperous families and communities by reengaging fathers with their children to improve overall childhood well-being and reduce poverty. We are the voice for fathers in South Carolina and lead one of the nation’s largest and most experienced networks of community-based organizations providing men with the tools and resources they need to be great dads. Our Center office is in Columbia, SC, and we have a network of five fatherhood organizations across the state.

This is a great opportunity for an organized, relationship-minded professional who wants to grow in nonprofit development. No grant-writing background is required. We will train you on the Center, our programs, and our funders, and you will gradually build grant knowledge as part of the role.

The Development Coordinator will:

  • Keep our development work organized: track funding deadlines, reporting dates, and submission timelines, and keep shared calendars, files, and records current.
  • Maintain accurate donor and funder records in our database, process and acknowledge gifts, and prepare thank-you letters and other supporter communications.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for our grant writers and contractors, gathering the information, documents, and program details they need.
  • Partner with program, finance, evaluation, communications, and local organization colleagues to collect the information needed for proposals and reports and help keep projects on schedule.
  • Assist with grant reports by organizing program data and updates, coordinating financial information with the Director of Finance, and helping ensure reports are submitted on time.
  • Help celebrate and communicate awards and support funder relationships by responding to routine funder requests and passing questions to the right staff member.
  • Support the communications team in sharing the impact of our funders’ investments with stakeholders across the state.
  • Learn the grant process over time, including how to find and track funding opportunities, with guidance and mentoring from development leadership.
  • Perform other duties as requested with a professional, positive attitude and team spirit.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, communications, social work, public health, public policy, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • One to two years of experience in an office, administrative, nonprofit, program coordination, or customer service setting. Development or grant experience is helpful but not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear, professional letters and emails.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Comfort working with numbers, spreadsheets, and basic data, and a willingness to learn how budgets relate to grants.
  • Curiosity and a desire to learn, asks good questions, takes initiative, and welcomes coaching and feedback.
  • Good judgment, empathy, adaptability, and a level-headed attitude, with the ability to build positive working relationships with team members, partners, and funders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint) and video meeting tools such as Zoom. Experience with donor databases (such as Blackbaud), Trello, or grant research tools is a plus; we will train on our systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission, focus, and vision of the Center, and respect for the ministry of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
  • Some travel.
  • Flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Salary Range:

$45,000 – $55,000
