Job Summary
About Crossroads
Crossroads Church is a growing multi-site, interdenominational church. Our sites are currently located in Ohio and Kentucky, with plans to expand to additional cities. We also have an online presence that serves thousands of people who aren’t located near one of our physical sites.
We believe the story of Jesus' redemption is the greatest story ever told, and that's why we embrace creativity, adventure, authenticity, and tenacity to share this story with the world.
Our desire is to model our staff and church community after the church in Revelation, where people of all nations, tribes, and tongues are worshiping and working together. We’re not there yet, but it’s what we’re working toward with every hire and every person who walks through our doors.
Job Summary
The Disguise Programmer is responsible for programming and preparing immersive visual content for weekend experiences and events at Crossroads. Working directly with the site team and in close collaboration with the Disguise Integrator, the Wonderwall Creative Team, and the broader Experience Team, this role owns the Disguise programming workflow from asset review through final show-ready delivery.
A key responsibility of this role is owning and programming the Disguise timelines used at Crossroads sites. The Disguise Programmer takes creative content, Experience Maps, and production direction and translates them into organized, reliable Disguise timelines that can be handed off to Site Lighting Directors and Disguise Operators for execution.
The ideal candidate has experience programming and operating Disguise media servers in live events, theatre, broadcast, concerts, or installations. This is a highly technical yet creative role that bridges creative content and live production, ensuring visual assets are accurately implemented, reviewed, validated, and prepared for reliable execution. You’ll be part of a forward-thinking team building the future of storytelling in the church.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Own, build, and program the Disguise timelines used across Crossroads sites for weekend experiences, rehearsals, special events, and other productions.
- Translate Experience Maps, creative direction, and site-specific technical needs into programmed timelines, cues, transitions, layers, and content that accurately execute the creative vision.
- Own Disguise asset reviews, ensuring video and real-time content is properly imported, organized, configured, optimized, and validated before entering the live production environment.
- Collaborate with the Executive Producer of Weekend Experience, Technical Artists, and broader Experience Team to implement creative content and make programming adjustments based on asset reviews, rehearsals, and production feedback.
- Configure and manage traditional media playback, RenderStream, Unreal Engine, Notch, and other real-time workflows, including show control integrations using timecode, OSC, MIDI, and established Disguise workflows.
- Prepare and validate site timelines for clean handoff to Site Lighting Directors and Disguise Operators, adapting programming across different site configurations while maintaining consistency with the intended experience.
- Troubleshoot programming, content, and playback issues and provide on-site and/or remote programming support for productions using Disguise.
- Maintain project organization, file structure, naming conventions, and version control using Perforce and NAS systems, partnering with the Disguise Integrator when changes to architecture, technical standards, integrations, or core show-file infrastructure are required.
Experience/Skills Requirements
- 2+ years of experience programming and/or operating Disguise systems in live events, theatre, concerts, broadcast, installations, or themed entertainment.
- Proficiency with Disguise Designer software and media server workflows, including timelines, sequencing, layers, content management, and show programming.
- Experience programming and preparing content for LED and large-format video environments, with a strong understanding of video playback, media formats, and video signal flow.
- Familiarity with real-time rendering workflows using RenderStream, Notch, Unreal Engine, and/or TouchDesigner.
- Familiarity with networking and production protocols, including IP, SMPTE timecode, OSC, and Art-Net/sACN.
- Experience with Perforce or similar version control systems and the ability to interpret Experience Maps, technical documentation, cue information, and creative direction.
- Familiarity with lighting consoles and show control systems such as grandMA and ETC; knowledge of 3D workflows such as Blender, Cinema 4D, or Maya is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and under pressure.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to walk up to 5 miles while performing duties, including standing, climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping, and crouching.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Scheduling / Travel Requirements
- This role generally follows a Monday–Friday schedule during standard business hours, with later evenings regularly required to support asset reviews, rehearsals, and show preparation. The role will also require occasional weekend availability to support weekend experiences and high-impact events at Crossroads. Additional schedule variability should be expected based on production and event needs, with schedule adjustments communicated in advance whenever possible.
