Job Summary

Muskegon Catholic Central is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated leader to take the reins of our Middle School Track & Field program. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on young student-athletes by developing their skills, building confidence, and creating a foundation for future success at the high school level.

At MCC, athletics are an extension of our mission, forming young men and women of faith, character, and purpose. Our next head coach will understand that the impact of this role extends far beyond the track. We are looking for a leader who will inspire student-athletes to compete with purpose, embrace teamwork, and grow as individuals both on and off the track.

The ideal candidate will take ownership of the middle school program while working collaboratively with the Varsity Track & Field Head Coach to build a unified Crusader track and field program. Our goal is to establish consistency in coaching philosophy, athlete development, expectations, and culture from middle school through varsity. We want a coach who will make the middle school experience fun, competitive, and rewarding while preparing student-athletes for the next level.

Position Overview

The Middle School Track & Field Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the middle school program, including practices, competitions, athlete development, communication, and program organization.

This position requires a coach who can independently lead the day-to-day operations of the middle school program while embracing the overall vision and direction of the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Department. The middle school program should serve as an important foundation for the future success of Crusader Track & Field.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have previous coaching or track and field experience, preferably at the middle school or high school level. Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education. A passion for developing young athletes, teaching fundamentals, and building a positive team culture is essential.

  • Manage all aspects of the program, including practice schedules, meet preparation, athlete participation, and team communication.
  • Work collaboratively with the Varsity Head Coach to ensure alignment in coaching philosophy, athlete development, expectations, and program culture.
  • Help establish a strong developmental pathway from middle school to high school track and field.
  • Promote participation and encourage student-athletes to explore a variety of track and field events.

Student-Athlete Development

  • Foster the spiritual (spirit), academic (mind), and athletic (body) development of student-athletes.
  • Teach proper fundamentals, technique, and age-appropriate training principles across track and field events.
  • Emphasize leadership, responsibility, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  • Create an environment where student-athletes of all ability levels feel valued, challenged, and supported.
  • Help athletes develop a passion for track and field and a desire to continue competing at the high school level.

Practice & Competition

  • Plan and conduct organized, purposeful, and engaging practices that maximize athlete development.
  • Prepare student-athletes for competition through appropriate training, conditioning, and event instruction.
  • Coordinate athlete participation and event assignments during meets.
  • Promote a competitive mindset that values effort, improvement, preparation, and resilience.
  • Prioritize athlete safety, proper technique, and long-term development.

Culture & Community

  • Build a positive and unified program culture that student-athletes are proud to be part of.
  • Establish strong relationships with student-athletes, families, coaches, and school leadership.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Department.
