Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Journeyman HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, replacement, and testing of HVAC/R systems, control circuits, equipment, and appliances, as well as the maintenance of environmental control systems. This role requires in-depth knowledge of refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning systems — including chillers, cooling towers, Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC) units (DX and chilled water), rooftop units (RTUs) (DX and chilled water), and air handling units (AHUs).

Responsibilities:

• Assist team members engaged in the installation, repair, and servicing of environmental control systems.

• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis components.

• Cut, bend, fit, thread, and join piping and tubing.

• Install air and water filters, and adjust controls as needed.

• Connect, adjust, and troubleshoot temperature control systems.

• Lubricate fans, motors, and control units.

• Read and follow blueprints and engineering specifications.

• Perform additional duties as required, including painting, cleaning, snow removal, and general building maintenance.

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Education & Certifications :

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

• Current Journeyman HVAC license (any state) required.

• EPA Certification / CFC license required.

Experience:

• Minimum of 7 years’ experience troubleshooting, servicing, repairing, and/or replacing medium-to-large commercial HVAC systems (not residential) with minimal supervision.

Technical Skills:

• Ability to read blueprints and interpret product specifications and technical drawings.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Communication & Analytical Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

• Ability to perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals across all units of measure; to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

• Ability to apply common-sense judgment to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions, and to resolve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
