Join Our Team as a Junior Transportation Engineer

At AlfKa, we’re committed to enhancing transportation infrastructure and improving Florida’s communities. As a growing firm specializing in transportation engineering and design, we offer the opportunity to work on impactful projects in a collaborative and inclusive environment where every team member feels valued.

We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and perspectives. We believe in potential—so don’t hold back if you don’t meet every preferred qualification. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply!

Your Next Great Opportunity Starts Here

With your first full-time transportation engineering position, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, design, and development of roadway and highway projects across Florida. You’ll contribute to projects for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and local agencies, working alongside experienced engineers and project managers on real-world infrastructure challenges.

As a Junior Transportation Engineer, you will assist with engineering analysis, design development, and technical documentation under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. You’ll apply your academic knowledge, learn industry standards and tools, and build a strong foundation for professional licensure and a career in transportation engineering.

The Impact You’ll Make

Our Junior Transportation Engineers are an important part of our project teams and contribute meaningfully to the work we do. As part of our team, you will:

Learn by doing: Assist with roadway and intersection design, sidewalks and accessibility improvements, design calculations, quantity estimates, and plan preparation under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Build technical skills: Support the development of engineering models, drawings, and documentation using software such as MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.

Collaborate and grow: Work with project managers and multidisciplinary teams, including drainage and utility specialists, to support project goals and timelines.

Support quality: Review your work for accuracy and consistency, address review comments, and apply FDOT standards and local agency requirements.

Ask questions and improve: Participate in design reviews, receive feedback, and continuously strengthen your technical knowledge and engineering judgment.

See the big picture: Participate in field reviews and gain exposure to how transportation projects are planned, designed, and delivered from concept to construction.

What Makes You a Great Fit

We are excited to help you grow. Here’s what will set you up for success:

Engineering education: A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline by your start date.

Early-career perspective: Zero to two years of relevant experience. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Interest in transportation: An enthusiasm for roadway design, transportation systems, and infrastructure that serves communities.

Technical aptitude: A foundation in engineering principles. Familiarity with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD is a plus.

Eagerness to learn: A positive attitude, willingness to receive feedback, and motivation to develop professionally and pursue Professional Engineer licensure.

Strong communication: The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with team members.

Organized and dependable: Attention to detail, time management skills, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.

Past Experience Is a Plus

The following qualifications can help you get started, but they are not required to apply:

  • Engineer Intern Certification: EI/EIT certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination.

  • Previous Internship Experience: Experience supporting civil engineering or transportation projects.

  • CADD Experience: Use of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or OpenRoads Designer for engineering drawings and plan production.

  • Relevant Academic Projects: Coursework or capstone projects involving roadway design, transportation engineering, or infrastructure planning.

  • FDOT Familiarity: Exposure to FDOT design criteria, standards, or project documentation.

Competitive Compensation

This full-time position is designed for recent graduates and early-career engineers ready to build their careers in transportation engineering. Compensation is based on your education, relevant experience, and qualifications. We review compensation annually to recognize professional growth, contributions, and increased responsibilities.
