Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid)Reports to: Executive DirectorAbout the RoleThe Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) is seeking a driven and experienced Director of Federal Affairs and Coalitions with a background in financial services issues to serve as the organization’s primary liaison to Congress, federal agencies, and coalition partners on key taxpayer, consumer, and regulatory reform issues. This position requires a proactive government affairs professional who can translate policy priorities into strategic advocacy plans, build bipartisan relationships on Capitol Hill, and help amplify TPA’s voice in Washington.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Legislative Engagement: Lead TPA’s outreach to Capitol Hill, developing and maintaining relationships with Members of Congress, key committees, and staff, serving as the organization’s primary point of contact in Congress.Policy Monitoring: Oversee the tracking and analysis of federal legislation, hearings, and regulatory actions that impact taxpayers, consumers, and free markets, and advise leadership on emerging threats and opportunities.Policy analysis: Research and write about different policy areas with a focus on financial services.Advocacy Strategy: Design and execute legislative strategies, including meetings, briefings, and coalition letters, to advance TPA’s positions.Coalition amp; Stakeholder Coordination: Represent TPA in coalitions, think-tank networks, and policy roundtables; lead the cultivation of bipartisan and cross-sector partnerships to strengthen TPA’s impact.Communication Support: Collaborate with communications staff to craft compelling policy statements, op-eds, comment letters, and congressional outreach materials for policymakers and media.Event Planning: Direct the planning and execution of Capitol Hill briefings, roundtables, and other high-visibility events to highlight taxpayer-first solutions.Reporting and Project Tracking: Advise leadership and stakeholders on legislative developments, advocacy outcomes, and strategic recommendations.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, communications, or a related field.2-5 years of experience in government relations, congressional work, or issue advocacy, ideally focused on fiscal or regulatory policy.Strong understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory process, with proven experience influencing outcomes.Knowledge of, or strong interest in learning about, TPA’s financial services policy portfolio.Experience supervising staff, interns, or junior team members.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and persuasively.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in coalitions and build bipartisan relationships.Commitment to TPA’s principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty.Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience.Health and dental insurance.Generous, unlimited PTO policy.401(k) with employer match.Flexible work environment with remote work on Fridays.Annual performance and compensation review, with eligibility for year-end bonus.Opportunity to shape national policy debates in a respected, fast-growing organizationTo apply, please send your résumé to Ross@protectingtaxpayers.org with the subject line Director, Federal Affairs and Coalitions Application.
