No prior experience needed! Teach your native (or near-native) language, share your culture, and inspire others through one of Washington, DC's most unique nonprofit organizations.
The Global Language Network (GLN) is seeking enthusiastic volunteer language teachers to join our Teaching Fellowship and Teaching Associate programs. Whether you are an experienced educator or have never taught before, we provide comprehensive teacher training, curriculum support, and ongoing mentoring to help you succeed. Previous teaching experience is not required.
GLN has been Rated #1 BEST Language Classes in Washington, DC by Yelp every year since 2015, and offers affordable language classes in more than 60 languages using our unique communicative teaching approach. Teachers have the opportunity to teach in person in downtown Washington, DC, online, or in a hybrid format, depending on the needs of the semester.
Teaching with GLN is much more than teaching vocabulary and grammar. It is an opportunity to help students fall in love with your language and culture, build meaningful cross-cultural friendships, and become part of one of the Washington area's most diverse international communities.
Teach one language class per week (typically one 2-hour class on a weeknight or Sunday)
Create a welcoming, engaging, and interactive classroom environment
Share your language through GLN's communicative teaching methodology
Introduce students to your country's culture, traditions, and perspectives
Participate in a mandatory GLN Teacher Training before teaching
Prepare lesson plans using GLN curriculum resources and teaching materials
Encourage student participation and confidence through conversation-based activities
Collaborate with GLN staff and fellow teachers throughout the semester
Serve as a positive ambassador for GLN's mission of using language as a tool to help fix our world
Native or near-native fluency in the language you wish to teach
Passion for language learning and cultural exchange
Enthusiastic, dependable, and professional
Interest in teaching, mentoring, or community engagement
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Willingness to complete GLN Teacher Training
Ability to commit to teaching one class each week during the semester
Previous teaching experience is welcome but not required. We are looking for motivated individuals with the potential to become outstanding teachers and community leaders
