Certification EngineerOndas Holdings
Job Summary
Ondas Networks is seeking an experienced Certification Engineer to lead and coordinate domestic and international product-compliance testing for our private wireless networking solutions. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering professional with deep experience in radio certification, RF compliance, environmental testing, and regulatory approvals.
The Certification Engineer will be the primary interface among Ondas Networks engineering teams, external laboratories, approval agencies, and other certification partners. You will guide products from development through testing and approval, manage certification schedules and documentation, and help resolve technical issues that affect regulatory compliance or time to market.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in product design reviews and development-status meetings to ensure product-specific certification requirements are identified and met.
- Lead and coordinate domestic and international product-compliance testing, including radio, safety, environmental, and electromagnetic compatibility testing.
- Manage certification requirements for radio transmission and modulation technologies, including FDD/TDD, MIMO, FCC spectral masks, and related wireless requirements.
- Research, interpret, and apply applicable regulatory, industry, customer, and product-compliance standards and codes.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify, prevent, and mitigate certification and compliance risks early in the product-development process.
- Review engineering design data; identify compliance issues; and recommend design, product, process, or documentation changes needed to achieve certification.
- Develop and maintain product compliance plans, including test strategies, schedules, cost estimates, laboratory requirements, resource needs, approval milestones, and associated risks.
- Coordinate external test laboratories, certification agencies, subcontractors, component vendors, and internal stakeholders supporting compliance efforts.
- Establish compliance test standards and procedures; conduct, witness, and oversee tests as required.
- Analyze test results, diagnose failures, conduct forensic investigations, and coordinate corrective-action plans with cross-functional teams.
- Drive resolution of non-compliance issues, including recommendations for product changes and initiation of engineering change orders when needed.
- Prepare, submit, and manage approval applications and supporting documentation for regulatory agencies and certification bodies.
- Maintain organized records of certification activities, test results, reports, approvals, action items, open issues, and compliance databases.
- Create compliance reports, measurement-data summaries, management updates, technical presentations, and stakeholder communications on test progress, risks, impediments, and outcomes.
- Coordinate testing schedules and priorities across all phases of product development, escalating issues promptly to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Partner with functional design engineers across technical disciplines to keep certification efforts aligned with program requirements, schedule, and scope.
- Support automation of test plans, test execution, and technical documentation where appropriate.
- Stay current on evolving regulatory requirements, compliance engineering practices, wireless standards, and industry expectations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive technical, product, customer, and business information.
- Take ownership of new assignments and continuous-improvement opportunities that strengthen Ondas Networks’ product-compliance capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or another related engineering discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Five to eight years of relevant industry experience in product compliance, certification engineering, RF engineering, wireless communications, or a similar technical discipline.
- Demonstrated success completing radio product certifications through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED/IC), CE, or comparable international regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with FCC and/or ISED/IC Special Temporary Authority (STA) application processes.
- Strong working knowledge of radio-certification processes and radio-frequency technologies, including transmission characteristics, modulation techniques, FDD/TDD, MIMO, emissions requirements, and FCC spectral masks.
- Experience coordinating and supporting environmental testing, including shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, dust, moisture, altitude, and related conditions.
- Familiarity with CE/IEC requirements for radio products, as well as UL, CSA, and other compliance-laboratory processes.
- Knowledge of railway compliance requirements for electronic communications and signal-control devices is strongly preferred.
- Ability to evaluate complex technical issues, apply sound engineering judgment, and develop practical solutions in partnership with engineering teams and test laboratories.
- Excellent organizational, project-management, prioritization, and forward-planning skills.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly to engineers, executives, laboratories, approval agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to coordinate international certification activities and work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience with 2D and/or 3D design software is a plus.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, manage competing priorities, and keep complex certification programs on track.
- Commitment to compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and company obligations.
Physical Requirements
This position requires extended periods of work in an office and computer-laboratory environment. The successful candidate must be able to sit, stand, stoop, crawl, push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds unassisted as needed to support product testing and laboratory activities.
