Job Summary

The Director of Engineering is a full-time, on-site role based in Huntsville, AL, responsible for leading the engineering organization and ensuring high-quality technical delivery across all projects.

Responsibilities

This role oversees engineering strategy, resource planning, and project execution, aligning engineering priorities with business and client needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include guiding engineering teams, reviewing and approving technical designs and analyses, and coordinating with project managers and consultants to meet deadlines and quality standards. The Director of Engineering will collaborate with leadership to improve processes, implement best practices, and support integration between software, engineering tools, and process safety methodologies. This role also involves mentoring engineers, supporting recruitment, and fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain a license.

  • Experience designing ammonia refrigeration systems.

  • Familiarity with process safety information development (P&IDs, relief system design, material and energy balance, inventory calculations, etc.).

  • Demonstrated strength in Engineering Management, including overseeing multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Proven Team Leadership skills, with experience mentoring engineers, building high-performing teams, and fostering collaboration and accountability.

  • Background in Software Development or working closely with software teams to support engineering tools, automation, and integration with process safety systems.

  • Solid Project Management experience, including planning, budgeting, risk management, and delivering engineering work on time and within scope.

  • Experience with Integration of engineering systems, data, and workflows to streamline operations and improve reliability and insight.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or related discipline) or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience in process safety, industrial facilities, or regulated environments (e.g., EPA, OSHA) is highly beneficial.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex engineering topics to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work on-site in Huntsville, AL and collaborate effectively across multiple offices and client locations.
