Mechanical EngineerAnonymous
The Mechanical Engineer will be part of our Mechanical Engineering department—a small but high-impact team that serves as the structural and mechanical backbone for the company’s electrical projects and shop operations. We are constantly recruiting the best talent available, and this team currently consists of top-caliber engineers with the full expectation of continued growth. This role manages the full lifecycle of mechanical design support—from 3D modeling and structural detailing through fabrication drawing release—and is responsible for ensuring that engineering deliverables are timely, accurate, and production-ready.
This position works hand-in-hand with the Fabrication Shop to push projects through the fabrication shop efficiently.
As we continue to grow, the scope and complexity of projects assigned to the Mechanical Engineering department will expand accordingly. Future work will increasingly include automation projects involving robotics, servo systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and significant heavy industrial automation systems—all of which require strong mechanical design.
Mechanical Design & 3D Modeling
Design structural and mechanical components for mining power centers, E-Houses, custom electrical enclosures, and skid-mounted systems
Write 3D CAD modeling in SolidWorks for new builds, refurbishments, and modifications
Generate fabrication drawings, cut programs for plasma/laser tables, and Bill of Materials packages for the fabrication shop
Design brackets, motor pads, sensor mounts, and other structural supports for electrical equipment and instrumentation
Shop Coordination & Production Support
Support disassembly, assessment, and redesign for mining power center refurbishments, identifying structural repairs and modifications early in the process
Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure mechanical designs accommodate electrical components, cable routing, ventilation, and HVAC requirements
Special Projects, Automation & R&D Support
Complete designs for special projects such as the company’s multi-motor drive simulator (coupled motors, shafts, belts, brakes, encoders, and load cells)
Support the growing scope of industrial automation projects (robotics, servo-driven systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and heavy industrial automation equipment)
Support R&D initiatives as needed
Provide mechanical engineering expertise to adjacent projects and subsidiary development efforts
Evaluate improvements to fabrication processes, tooling, and design-for-manufacturability practices
Required
2-3 years of mechanical design experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environment
Experience designing structural steel assemblies, enclosures, and equipment mounting systems
Familiarity with sheet metal design, welding symbols, GD&T, and fabrication drawing standards
Experience generating CNC cut programs or fabrication-ready outputs from 3D models (plasma, laser, or similar)
Ability to work comfortably in a shop environment, interfacing directly with welders, fabricators, and machinists
Strong communication skills across engineering, shop, and project management functions
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
Experience with mining power center or high-voltage switchgear enclosure design
Background in E-House or modular electrical building design and fabrication
Experience with FEA/structural analysis for custom industrial equipment
Familiarity with MSHA, OSHA, NEC, or NFPA standards regarding mechanical/structural design
Prior experience in a company that serves mining, steel, paper/pulp, or heavy manufacturing industries
Experience with ERP or project tracking systems for managing engineering deliverables
Exposure to automation systems: robotics, servo mechanisms, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and industrial machine design
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- SolidWorks•2 - 5 years
- Mechanical design engineering•2 - 5 years
We are a full-service engineering, system integration, and field services company serving heavy industry across the Southeastern United States. Established in 1996 and headquartered in the Birmingham, Alabama area, we have grown to a 50+ person team of engineers, technicians, and skilled tradesmen delivering solutions for some of the most demanding industrial environments in the country.
Our core markets include mining operations, steel production facilities, paper and tissue manufacturing, and general industrial manufacturing. We provide comprehensive services spanning drive systems and motors, power infrastructure, custom industrial equipment, control systems, construction services, and 24/7 emergency field support. We are recognized as both a full-service System Integrator and an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), handling everything from initial concept and engineering design through fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
Our fabrication facility supports a vertically integrated workflow for mining power centers, E-Houses, custom electrical enclosures, and skid-mounted systems. The Mechanical Engineering department is a critical link between engineering design and shop execution, ensuring that structural and mechanical components are accurately modeled, detailed, and delivered to the fabrication floor for efficient production. We invest heavily in its people and is committed to growing each department with experienced, high-caliber engineers who raise the bar for the entire organization.
