Job Summary

The Staff Accountant position at Vessel Advisors will support and report to the VP of Operations and informally report to the Vessel Advisors' Controller(s) on a daily basis. The position involves managing accounting and financial processes for multiple clients (6-10) concurrently. The Staff Accountant will execute the daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly accounting tasks of select clients and completely own their workflows and deadlines, communicating frequently to ensure all matters are complete.

Responsibilities
  • Support our team of Controllers in the execution of accounting and data entry items, as well as short-term project-specific assignments.
  • Execute existing accounting processes and make recommendations for process improvement via automation and/or reduction of complexities.
  • Communicate quickly and effectively with various internal (Vessel Advisor employees) and external stakeholders (clients).
  • Build trusted relationships with Vessel Advisors’ Controllers based on consistently doing what is assigned and exceeding expectations.
  • Consistent execution of accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable for clients, including processing invoices, posting payments, and reconciling statements
  • Perform payroll processing for clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations (as applicable) 
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card statements for clients
  • Assist with month-end closing procedures, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepares recurring financial reports and other ad-hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate effectively with clients, responding to inquiries and providing timely and accurate information
  • Supports additional discovery and short-term projects, as needed
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing custom and client-specific engagement objectives, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting records for clients
  • Stay up-to-date with accounting regulations and standards to ensure compliance
Qualifications
  • Must have experience managing accounting for multiple (6-10) clients at one time and thrive in that environment. If you do not have this experience, please do not apply.
  • Must be located (or willing to work) in the Pacific (PST) or Mountain (MST) time zones to ensure seamless collaboration with our team and clients.
  • Has 3 or more years of experience as a Staff Accountant or similar for multiple companies. Do not apply without relevant experience.
  • Is tech-savvy. The right candidate already knows how to use cloud-based software and is an expert in QBO, Excel, and Google Workspace (e.g., Gmail, G Docs, G Sheets, etc). 
  • Has experience quickly learning and mastering new software.
  • Is incredibly proactive. They execute on their daily, weekly, and monthly task lists. They look for things that need to be done and they do them. They don't wait around until they are told to do something, and they put their hand up if they need more work.
  • Is organized. The major need is for someone who is deeply, obsessively organized and loves checklists. Our clients trust us to be consistent and comprehensive in our service.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, demanding work environment. If you don’t love working at full speed and managing multiple priorities at once, this is not the job for you.
  • Is flexible. The right candidate needs to be comfortable when plans change and when things go wrong. Someone with a cool head and a can-do attitude.
  • Is positive. We want to hear what you're doing to make each day amazing!
  • Is an excellent communicator (both written -- email, Slack, etc. -- and verbal). 95% of the communication at Vessel Advisors is Slack, Asana, or email based.
  • Is a very fast learner. We’ll expose you to many clients in various industries, and if you can't pick up new concepts fast, you'll be frustrated.
  • Is experienced with remote working. A strong self-starter with a dedicated workspace and access to high-speed internet. The ideal candidate will be strong in self-mastery and able to manage themselves from a work-at-home environment with little to no supervision.
  • Has discretion and can maintain confidentiality. Complete discretion and confidentiality are paramount.
  • Is a perfectionist. Our clients expect precision in the large volume of detailed transactions we manage for them each month.

  • Is service-oriented, a team-player. Most work is done independently, but we are looking for someone with a team-first attitude. Selfish/entitled attitudes are not tolerated on our team.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience managing multiple clients
  • 3+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant or similar in a Private Business
  • 3+ years of experience with QBO (QBO certification is a plus)
  • 2-3 years experience in Google Workspace products

Location & Working Conditions

USA - Remote Working Arrangement - West Coast (PST) Hours (7:30a-4:30p or 8:30a-5:30p)


Daily access to a strong internet connection (minimum 100+ Mbps upload, 30+ Mbps download)

Compensation & Benefits
  • $60,000 - $70,000 per Year (DOE)
