Self-Help & Personal Development WriterUpward News
We're hiring a writer who can cover the self-help, personal development, and faith space.
That means you've read Dennis Prager and you understand why he resonates with millions of people. You've watched Jordan Peterson lectures and have a take on them. You know the difference between what Dave Ramsey teaches and what Alex Hormozi teaches, and why both have massive audiences. You've read James Clear, and Cal Newport.
We're not looking for someone who can summarize these thinkers. We want someone who can write pieces that belong alongside them — essays, short articles, that blend philosophy, faith, history, and practical wisdom. Pieces with a point of view. Not "10 tips to wake up earlier." Real writing about how to live a better life, grounded in ideas that actually matter.
To apply, send three things to [editorial@upward.news]:
Two or three samples that show you can do this
A short paragraph on which voice in this space has shaped your own thinking the most, and why
A pitch for your first piece
(We will not respond to AI-generated submissions)
Responsibilities:
Write regular essays, profiles, and reported pieces across faith, philosophy, motivation, productivity, health, and personal finance
Pitch and develop your own story ideas — we want a writer who brings us things, not one who waits for assignments
Cover the thinkers, movements, and ideas shaping the self-help and personal development space — from Prager and Peterson to Goggins and Hormozi
Stay plugged into the podcast, YouTube, and publishing ecosystem that drives this world and identify what's worth covering
Work with our editorial team on pacing, tone, and direction, but ultimately own the output
You should apply if:
You can write a reported profile, a personal essay, and an analytical piece — and all three are good
You're fluent in at least a couple of these worlds: faith and philosophy, motivation and discipline, productivity, health, or personal finance
You write with conviction but you don't preach
You have 3+ years of writing or journalism experience
Bonus if you have your own audience or newsletter
