What NOT to Include on Your Resume
There's already a bucket load of generic resume advice out there.
So instead of asking what job seekers should include in their resume, I asked my team of recruiters:
“What would you tell job seekers to not include on their resume?”
Their answer was unanimous: “We would tell job seekers to avoid over-formatting or crazy designs.”
“Avoid over-formatting or crazy designs.”
They said all too often, some job seekers feel like they have to get over-creative with their resumes, including lines like “the Fabulicious Marketer” or using neon colors to make it pop.
But the better approach is to just keep things simple.
- 1-2 pages
- Cleanly formatted
- Use your real name and information
- No crazy colors or irrelevant graphics
The goal being concisely communicating why you should get the job based on your qualifications and experience. You can let your personality shine through in the interview, but in the resume, it's always best to keep things simple.
