How NOT to Use AI
There are plenty of good ways to use AI. And there are plenty of brain-dead ways to use AI… this one is an example of that second use case.
One of my recruiters was talking with a candidate the other day and asked them “why do you think you'd be a good fit for this role?”
The candidate's reply was something like, “I asked ChatGPT what jobs I'd be a good fit for, and this one came back as a 90% match.”
There was no sign of independent thought. No offered reason for why THEY thought the opportunity was a good one, or why they should be hired instead of the dozens of other applicants.
Just pushing a button and expecting to be given a job because “the machine said it was a good idea!”
If anything, this is probably the fastest way to show an employer why they should never consider you for a role ever again.
Yes, we have incredible technology at our finger tips. But no great team is built by people who give up thinking for themselves. That fact will never change.

If you're applying to a job, show that you respect the opportunity by putting in work to know what the job actually is, who the company is, what kind of people they serve, etc.
That's how you get ahead.
