Look, we all know the job market is tough right now.

But a desperation overshare is NOT going to get you hired.

Repeatedly telling a recruiter or hiring manager things like…

“My house is falling apart!”
“You HAVE to get me this job, I have a wife and kids!”
“PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me interview!”

…does not tell the recruiter anything about how you'd be a good fit for the opportunity. In fact, whether fair or not, this can quickly turn into the recruiter asking themselves things like:

“Are they stable?”
“Are they going to bring stress into the workplace?”
“Are they just looking for a quick ‘in-between’ job while they get things settled?”

Here's a great rule of thumb:

Work to help the recruiter understand your ability and your readiness for the role.

Try not to become stuck on your immediate situation. Work to help the recruiter understand your ability and your readiness for the role.

When you stay focused on only your problems, it is really hard for recruiters to learn how to see your potential.

Put your best foot forward.

Find a role where your ability and readiness can shine.
