Assignment EditorHerzog Foundation
We're looking for someone with newsroom experience to join our team as an Assignment Editor. This role involves finding and assigning stories, editing submissions, managing freelancers, and producing original content for our news publication, The Lion.
Collaborate with editors to understand angles and prioritize coverage
Monitor news sources to identify potential original stories
Identify stories for republication from partner publications
Assign Lion reporters/freelancers to cover specific stories or events
Track the progress of assignments and adjust plans as news develops
Handle the administration of freelancers, including invoice approval
Edit filed stories for publication, and publish through our website
Write news stories with original reporting as needed
Deadline-oriented and organized
Superb attention to detail with ability to follow instructions
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage writers
Clear communicator who can motivate and maintain accountability
Self-starter and cooperative team-player
Inquisitive reporter
- Newsroom experience, including as a reporter•3+ years
- Proficient editor•1+ years
- Familiarity with AP Style
- Familiarity with WordPress and simple photo editing
