Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Controller, this position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations while providing accurate, up-to-date financial and contribution records for the church and its related ministries. This position is also responsible for preparing financial analyses of operations, including interim and financial reporting with support schedules.
Furthermore, the Lead Accountant shares responsibility for the maintenance of fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves managing general accounting tasks, property accounting, internal auditing, and budgetary controls.
Responsibilities
Daily/Weekly:
- Review and approve weekly contributions from Sunday services
- Check and respond to personal voicemail and email, and answer member inquiries
- Generate weekly pledge reports and designated fund summaries for missionary payables
- Provide Contribution Summary to Controller, Church Administrator, and Finance Committee Chairman
Monthly/Semi-Monthly:
- Perform month-end closing of the general ledger (GL)
- Reconcile payroll register activity to the GL and tax reports
- Reconcile contribution deposits to the master bank account
- Reconcile AP checks, ACH transfers, VOIDs, and manual online payments to the operating account, communicating corrections to the AP Specialist
- Provide monthly reporting for missions’ projects
- Complete assigned balance sheet reconciliations per the Controller’s direction
Yearly:
- Prepare stock acknowledgment letters for stock, grants, and QCD contributions
- Manage member statement adjustments in coordination with the database specialist
- Lead the team project to distribute member contribution statements for tax preparation
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Controller on system upgrades, modifications, annual audit workpapers, and reports
- Assist with mailroom postage duties as needed
- Stay updated on accounting software and church financial accounting procedures
- Complete other tasks as assigned by the Controller

Requirements
- Accounting degree or equivalent work experience
- Proficiency in online banking and push-pay web portals
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and non-profit accounting principles
- Knowledge of general ledgers, account reconciliations, financial reports, budgets, and close procedures
- Advanced Excel skills
- Proficiency in Outlook and Word
- Willing to sign statement of faith
