Senior BookkeeperVAUSA
We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Senior Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial operations of our growing non-profit organization. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting compliance, and providing transparent reporting to leadership, donors, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate has a strong background in nonprofit accounting, a passion for mission-driven work, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including A/P, A/R, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
Oversee grant tracking and restricted fund accounting
Maintain and reconcile budgets and track actuals versus forecasts
Ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting in coordination with HR
Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and nonprofit reporting standards (e.g., IRS Form 990)
Collaborate with external accountants for annual audits and tax filings
Develop and implement internal financial policies, controls, and procedures
Provide strategic financial insights and forecasting to support organizational planning
Assist with preparing financial documents for board meetings and donor reports
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s or CPA preferred)
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in bookkeeping, finance, or accounting (non-profit sector experience required)
Deep understanding of fund accounting, GAAP, and nonprofit financial reporting requirements
Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online or Desktop), Excel, and donor management or grant tracking systems
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
High level of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a mission-driven environment
