Job Summary

As a PV2 in the 1st Battalion, you will serve as a general-purpose troop at the squad level. This role involves field operations, disaster response, and support tasks essential to the mission of the South Carolina State Guard. PV2 personnel are vital to ensuring the success of field operations and providing critical support to communities during emergencies. You will report to Squad Leader. PV2 personnel will gain valuable field experience and leadership skills, positioning them for advancement within the South Carolina State Guard. Training and operational deployments provide practical skills applicable both within the Guard and in civilian life.


Responsibilities

Disaster Response and Relief Operations:

  • Deploy to disaster-affected areas to provide assistance and support.
  • Establish and maintain Forward Observation Bases (FOB) for mission operations.

Field Operations:

  • Perform general-purpose duties in the field as assigned by the Squad Leader.
  • Conduct damage assessment and report findings accurately.

Training and Readiness:

  • Attend and complete training in the following areas:
  • CERT (Community Emergency Response Team): Basic disaster response skills, including fire safety and disaster medical operations.
  • Radio Communications: Set up and operate radio equipment for squad communications.
  • Land Navigation: Navigate effectively in varied terrains using maps and compasses.
  • Shelter Setup: Assist in establishing temporary shelters for displaced individuals.
  • POD (Point of Distribution) Setup: Coordinate and operate distribution points for relief supplies.
  • Triage: Provide initial medical evaluation and prioritize treatment for casualties.

Support Functions:

  • Assist in the logistical setup of operations, including the establishment of shelters and points of distribution.
  • Provide manpower for missions requiring general-purpose troop deployment.

Teamwork and Leadership Development:

  • Operate as a member of a squad under the direction of a Squad Leader.
  • Develop leadership skills through hands-on training and field experience.


Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive medical examination
  • Willingness to relocate as required by military assignments
  • Must meet the minimum age requirements as per South Carolina State Guard Standards
  • Willingness to undergo required training programs
  • Ability to perform physical tasks as required for field operations
  • Availability to attend scheduled drills, training, and deployments

About Us

The State Guard is organized as an army division under the leadership of the Commander of the SCSG (COMMAND). It is comprised of the personal Staff, Special Staff, Coordinator Staff, Professional Services Command, and the 1st Civil Support Brigade.

The 1st Civil Support Brigade id further divided into the following: 1st Battalion, 2nd Battalion, and 3rd Battalion.

Each battalion is further divided into companies, corresponding to the boundaries of the six regions of the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.
