FULL-TIME CONTROLLER

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Administration, the Controller will be an integral part of the executive team providing vital guidance, direction, and input in the daily Accounting Department operations of the business on-site at their headquarters in Harrisburg, PA.

The Controller is responsible for preparing the monthly financial statements and reporting, along with the management of the small accounting department staff.  The Controller is responsible for reviewing and confirming the accuracy of all A/R, A/P, and general ledger accounting tasks and statements. The Controller is also responsible for 990 completion prior to external review, and review of the externally prepared 5500 for the 403b retirement plan.  This individual also directs the annual budget process, and reports regularly on progress, variances and overall financial position to the VP of Administration. The Controller assists the VP of Administration’s interaction with external auditors and bank representatives.    

The ideal individual has experience working with non-profit organizations, and preferably, in the general human services industry.  A minimum of a four year degree in accounting or finance, with a minimum of five years’ experience as a Controller, are required.  A CPA license is desired.  High level competence in accounting and spreadsheet software will be needed.  Attention to detail is an absolute must, as is strong familiarity with GAAP.

The work environment is one where hard work and honest feedback amongst team members is the norm.  A minimum of five years of supervisory experience required.  While interaction takes places with co-workers, it is expected that this level of position will direct their own work efforts without the need for significant oversight.  While some intermittent travel to conferences, continuing education and service locations may be required, virtually all of the work week will be spent at the headquarters location.  Remote work from home or other location is a rare, if not non-existent possibility in this position.
