ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As Essential Personnel; you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Maintenance employees are essential to the overall success of Commencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekend events and special events that are scheduled in facilities throughout the year and must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc.
Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Must be familiar with the standard concepts, practices and procedures of the specific skilled (ex: carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC) Trade.
Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
Assists other maintenance technicians, lead technicians and supervisors as needed.
Receives and completes work orders.
Must keep accurate and up-to-date records of work performed and materials used in accordance with department standards.
Reads and interprets written directions, manuals, and construction drawings.
Maintains and repairs all buildings and facilities including carpentry, decorating, hanging of display and whiteboards, roofing, drywall, masonry, painting, plumbing, fire alarms, fire sprinklers, or any combination of trades.
Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade-related tasks.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent. Applicants must have 1+ years of experience in a specific skilled trade (ex: carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC) and/or journey or master certification. Must be able to understand and follow directions, and work under limited Supervision. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Clean and professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented. self-motivated, diligent, and trustworthy, and possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift up to 75+ pounds and perform duties of the General Maintenance trade in a typical Virginia Climate. This position might require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able to obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
Possess public communication skills that allow the professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
Strong organizational skills.
Basic computer skills and the ability to complete training programs focused on the use of our CMMS. (Computerized maintenance management software)

Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Physical and Sensory Abilities
Frequently required to travel to locations both on and off main campus location.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
Regularly lift 75 or more pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is an indoor/ outdoor space setting and defined by the weather. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
