ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works as an integrative member of the Champion Performance team to support the Vision of Liberty University Athletics and Mission of Champion Performance.
- Assists the director in all aspects of Strength and Conditioning staff including safety, procedure, protocol, hiring of staff, equipment purchases, staff development, program design, weight room design, staff education, recruitment of interns and volunteers, instruct interns and volunteers.
- Provide instructional expertise and direction in the areas of speed, strength, and conditioning for assigned athletic programs including pre-season, in-season, and post-season workouts.
- Maintain communication with administration and/or coaching staff relative to athletic development issues.
- Work in coordination with nutrition and sports medicine staff to implement appropriate injury prevention and reconditioning programs as needed.
- Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, and services.
- Maintain a working knowledge of and adherence to NCAA and institutional rules and regulations.
- Provide presentation of support to athletes and parents during on-campus recruiting visits for athletic programs.
- Provide support, oversite, and direction for applied performance initiatives.
- Other duties: Perform other program duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or the area head.
- Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for supervising graduate assistants, interns and student workers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of related experience at the NCAA Division I or professional level. Master's degree.
Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum:
- At least one certification: CSCS, CSCCa or USAW.Must maintain CPR certification at all times.
Preferred:
- Pursuit of two certifications: CSCS, CSCCa or USAW

Physical and Sensory Abilities
- Required to travel to local and campus locations.
- May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
- Requires physical efforts including standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying light (0-15lbs.), moderately heavy (15 – 50 lbs), and heavy objects (50+ lbs).
- Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to weather extremes.
- Demands require prolonged mental concentration.
- Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
- Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office or weight room setting as well as outdoor exposure in extreme conditions. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate but extreme at times.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
