Job Summary

A data center hosting and operator is seeking an experienced Regional Data Center Operations Leader to own complete operational accountability for performance, reliability, and customer experience across our Southwest regional data center portfolio. This role is responsible for 24/7 uptime, team leadership, budget ownership, and leading strategic data center projects including facility transitions and expansions. This is a Phoenix-based, on-site role with regular travel to other regional facilities.

  • Data center operations managers or directors with 10+ years of progressive leadership experience and proven 99.9%+ uptime records

  • Multi-site operations leaders who've built, scaled, and held accountable 24/7 data center teams across distributed locations

  • Strategic operators who understand networking, racking, stacking, power, and cooling at scale while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement

  • Leaders who've managed facility transitions, expansions, or complex operational projects with full accountability for outcomes

Responsibilities

Regional Ownership & Operational Excellence

  • Own complete end-to-end accountability for all operational outcomes across regional facilities

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for all incidents, issues, and facility coordination

  • Ensure consistency in execution, documentation, and customer experience across sites

  • Lead incident response, customer equipment installs, monitoring, and customer escalations

  • Drive proactive capacity planning, forecasting, and facility readiness

  • Monitor and maintain electrical, mechanical, and network systems

Team Leadership & Accountability

  • Directly manage and hold accountable data center engineers and technicians across 24/7 operations at multiple facilities

  • Set clear expectations, delegate effectively, and drive accountability for delivery and performance

  • Build a culture of ownership, operational discipline, and customer-first thinking across the region

  • Conduct regular 1:1s with direct reports and maintain strong leadership visibility across all sites

  • Develop cross-training programs to ensure operational continuity

Customer Experience & Service Delivery

  • Own the customer experience as it relates to operational performance and responsiveness

  • Ensure professional, timely, SLA-driven communication

  • Set and enforce standards for response times, ticket quality, and communication excellence

Budget, Planning & Strategic Operations

  • Own the regional operating budget including forecasting, expense management, and reporting

  • Define, track, and respond to KPIs (uptime, SLA adherence, incident trends, capacity utilization)

  • Use metrics to guide operational decisions, measure team success, and drive continuous improvement

  • Develop and enforce SOPs, runbooks, and operational processes across the region

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 10+ years in data center operations with progressive leadership experience managing single-site or multi-site operations in 24/7 environments

  • Demonstrated success managing distributed teams with complete accountability for operational performance and outcomes

  • Strong track record of budget ownership, forecasting, and operational expense management

  • Hands-on experience with data center infrastructure: racking, stacking, cabling, power, cooling, and network systems

  • Experience with data-driven decision making, KPI development, and using metrics to drive team performance

  • Proven ability to lead complex operational projects including facility transitions and  expansions

  • Track record of building accountability and developing high-performing operations teams

  • Visible and hands-on; you lead from the floor and aren’t afraid to do the work alongside the team

  • Strong leadership presence with ability to set clear expectations, drive accountability, and model expected behaviors

  • Comfortable managing distributed teams with clear accountability structures and regular performance management

  • Data-driven and metrics-focused; you use KPIs to guide decisions and measure success

  • Proactive executor who identifies risks and drives solutions without waiting to be prompted

  • Customer-obsessed; trust is earned through flawless execution and professional communication

Technical Foundation:

  • Deep understanding of data center infrastructure: power (PDUs, UPS, generators), cooling (CRAC/CRAH), networking (switching, cabling, cross-connects)

  • Experience with monitoring systems, ticketing platforms, DCIM, and vendor management

  • Working knowledge of compliance frameworks (SOC 2), physical security, access control, and audit protocols

  • Familiarity with uptime standards, SLA management, and incident response frameworks

  • Data center certifications (CDCP, CDCS, CDFOM) a plus
