 Washington, DCSummaryThe American Institute for Economic Research educates people on the value of personal freedom, free enterprise, property rights, limited government, and sound money.This position manages AIER's engagement with federal and state policymakers, as well as journalists. The Manager of Public Affairs educates legislators and their staff through briefings, meetings, and policy events, ensuring AIER's research reaches decision-makers in a clear and responsible manner. All work is nonpartisan and educational, consistent with AIER's 501(c)(3) status.

 This role involves strategic, targeted engagement with federal and state policymakers, including scheduled briefings and meetings in Washington, D.C. and select state capitals. This person will report to the Director of Strategic Partnerships. Engagement typically occurs several days per month rather than requiring daily presence on Capitol Hill. The balance of time is dedicated to planning, coordination, research dissemination, and relationship development in a hybrid work environment.This is a full-time role based in Washington, DC. This position has a salary range of $85,000-$110,000, commensurate with the candidate’s experience.Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout employment.
 ResponsibilitiesLead and execute AIER’s nonpartisan educational public affairs strategy at the federal and state levels, emphasizing policy briefings, research dissemination, and relationship developmentPlan and manage educational legislative briefings featuring AIER scholarsCoordinate and engage in meetings with policymakers and legislative staffCompile and disseminate relevant AIER research for legislative briefings and meetingsMonitor legislative developments to identify appropriate educational engagement opportunitiesSupport scholar participation in hearings, briefings, and policy forums when consistent with AIER’s missionOversee planning and execution of major policy conferences and educational seminarsBuild and maintain relationships with journalists and connect them with relevant AIER research and scholarsEnsure all engagement remains educational and consistent with AIER’s 501(c)(3) statusQualifications3+ years of experience in public affairs, government relations, legislative staff work, or policy rolesAlignment with AIER's mission and principlesDemonstrated understanding of public policy issues from a classical liberal perspective, including principles of limited government, free enterprise, property rights, and the rule of lawWorking knowledge of congressional and state legislative processesStrong organizational and relationship-management skillsHigh degree of professionalism, judgment, and organizational abilityTravel and ScheduleRegular domestic travel required, primarily around the Washington, D.C. area and select state capitals. Schedule includes daytime meetings and occasional evening events.FLSA Status: Exempt
