Job Summary
Title: Policy Advisor, China and the Indo-PacificReports to: Director, Asian Studies CenterJob Summary: The Policy Advisor, China and the Indo-Pacific provides policy guidance and advice on issues involving the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and associated American interests. The Policy Advisor is expected to be of the highest professional caliber, capable of crafting model legislation on China and other geopolitical and national security issues in the Indo-Pacific, conducting timely research and analysis, providing policy guidance on legislative affairs, and acting appropriately as a spokesman for Heritage in public events and in media interviews and briefings. The ideal candidate has extensive experience on Capitol Hill and in the legislative process as well as extensive experience working on China and other related Indo-Pacific security affairs.Job Duties:Develop innovative legislative policy solutions and craft model legislation.Conduct timely, rigorous policy analysis and research.Review and analyze proposed state legislation related to China, in coordination with Heritage Action.Produce high-quality policy papers and reports.Speak at major public functions and at professional conferences.Provide expert testimony before Congress.Maintain a high profile in the media and a leadership position in the public policy community and on Capitol Hill.Advise management on programs which keep Heritage in leadership role in Indo Pacific policy.Qualifications:Education: Master’s degree in relevant field and/or law degreeExperience: 5+ years of relevant experience on China and/or Taiwan policy, Indo-Pacific security affairs, some experience working on Capitol Hill preferredCommunications: Excellent public speaker and writer internally and with target audiences, able to persuade and change minds; working fluency in an Asian language preferredTechnology: Microsoft SuiteAchievement: Demonstrated ongoing ability to achieve decisive changes in public policyOther Requirements: Understands and supports the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the department’s goals and objectives.Promote policies consistent with Heritage’s priorities; speak with one voice.Professionalism: highest possible degree (adaptability, maturity, integrity and accountability).Initiative: highest possible, requiring only general guidance with high degree of independent action.Innovation: exceptional entrepreneurial skills and willingness to take initiative.Benefits and Salary:The Heritage Foundation offers a highly competitive benefits package that includes, but is not limited to, best-in-class health care, vision, and dental insurance, employer-sponsored retirement funding, “take what you need” PTO and sick leave, 14 weeks of paid leave for new moms and 6 weeks of paid leave for new dads, among other programs.The salary range for this role is $112,000 - $130,000 annually. This range is a good-faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
