Title:State Director (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi) Reports to:Director of Advocacy and EngagementJob Summary: The State Director is responsible for developing, building, and managing relationships with state lawmakers and conservative activists within the assigned region who are interested in holding their elected officials accountable and advancing the conservative policy solutions of The Heritage Foundation at all levels of government. The State Director serves as the primary leader for the organization's operations within the assigned states, driving political impact through strategic advocacy, relational organizing, activist mobilization, and operational excellence. This role focuses on delivering measurable outcomes in legislative influence and grassroots growth, while demonstrating key competencies in leadership, adaptability, and results-oriented execution. Job Duties:Recruit and Train Grassroots ActivistsAttend and speak at regional conservative meetings with coalition partners to serve as the primary representative of Heritage Action and the Sentinel grassroots community. Train activists to advocate for conservative legislative priorities. This includes maintaining a strong, broad policy knowledge and the ability to coach activists to be effective. Recruit and mobilize activists and community members into effective local communities to support policy issue campaigns, initiatives, and events that advance the organization's goals. Provide subject matter expertise for state political conditionsMaintain a thorough understanding of the political, policy, and strategic landscapes of the region and make routine reports for the Director of Advocacy and Engagement. Lead the development and execution of state-level strategies, aligning with national objectives while adapting to local political dynamics. Collaborate with national leadership to integrate state activities into broader campaigns and provide insights on regional trends. Lobby in favor of conservative policies at the state levelAct as a representative of Heritage Action in conducting lobbying activities where registered to advance the organization's policy priorities, including coordinating grassroots efforts designed to support Heritage Action lobbying efforts.  Develop and maintain relationships with state officials, state legislators, and staff in order to advocate for conservative policy. Project Management and Event PlanningOversee regional budget management, resource allocation, and reporting to ensure efficient use of funds and compliance with organizational goals and standards. Ensure seamless planning and execution of high-impact activities including events (e.g., rallies, town halls, and policy forums) and advocacy priorities. Qualifications:Education: BA/BS required Experience: 2+ years of policy, campaign, or government affairs experience Communication: Excellent writing, presentation, and public speaking skills Technology: Microsoft Suite; proficiency in databases, social media, and similar software Other Requirements:Understand and support the Heritage Action mission and vision for America, and the department’s goals and objectives. High level of professionalism (adaptability, maturity, integrity, accountability). Extensive knowledge and understanding of state legislatures and public policy. Register to lobby in states (as needed). Capacity to pivot strategies in response to changing political conditions or unexpected challenges. Ability and willingness to travel numerous times per month, sometimes with little advanced notice. Highly organized and possess strong interpersonal skills. Ability to quickly prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Self-starter with a willingness to innovate to accomplish goals. The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $70,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
