Job Summary
Title: State Director (Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee) Reports to: Director of Advocacy amp; Engagement Job Summary: The State Director is responsible for developing, building, and managing relationships with conservative activists within the assigned region who are interested in holding their elected officials accountable and advancing the conservative policy solutions of The Heritage Foundation at all levels of government. The State Director serves as the primary leader for the organization's operations within the assigned states, driving political impact through strategic advocacy, relational organizing, activist mobilization, and operational excellence. This role focuses on delivering measurable outcomes in legislative influence and grassroots growth. Job Duties: Recruit and Train Grassroots Activists · Attend and speak at regional conservative meetings with coalition partners to serve as the primary representative of Heritage Action and the Sentinel grassroots community. · Establish and maintain relationships with conservative activists in the assigned region through various mediums of communication with a focus on building a permanent engaged conservative base. · Understand how to train effective activists to advocate for conservative legislative priorities, including maintaining a strong, broad policy knowledge. · Recruit and mobilize activists and community members into effective local networks to support policy campaigns, initiatives, and events that advance organizational goals. Provide Expertise for State Political Conditions · Maintain a thorough understanding of the political, policy, and strategic landscapes of the region and make routine reports to the Director of Advocacy amp; Engagement. · Lead the development and execution of state-level strategies, aligning with national objectives while adapting to local political dynamics. · Collaborate with national leadership to integrate state activities into broader campaigns and provide insights on regional trends. · Support and counsel Heritage Action registered lobbyists by analyzing lobbying activities, building relationships with state policymakers and stakeholders, and coordinating grassroots efforts to advance policy priorities. · Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials and staff to support advocacy for conservative policy as directed by the Director of Advocacy amp; Engagement. Project Management and Event Planning · Oversee regional budget management, resource allocation, and reporting to ensure efficient use of funds and compliance with organizational goals and standards. · Ensure seamless planning and execution of high-impact activities and events, including rallies, town halls, and policy forums. Qualifications: Education: BA/BS in business, political science, or related field preferred Experience: 2+ years of policy, government affairs, or campaign experience; familiarity with state advocacy and/or conservative policy organizations preferred Communication: Excellent writing, presentation, and public speaking skills for advocacy and mobilization Technology: Microsoft Suite; data software; social media platforms Other Requirements: · Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and Heritage Action’s goals and objectives. · Self-starter with willingness to innovate on how best to accomplish goals and balance multiple priorities. · Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills. · Ability to analyze political landscapes, prioritize initiatives, and develop actionable plans that align with organizational goals. · Proven skill in forging alliances with diverse stakeholders, including elected officials, community leaders, and volunteers. · Capacity to pivot strategies in response to changing political conditions or unexpected challenges. · Live in and based out of Georgia with a preference for being based in the Atlanta area. · Willing to travel within region and at least 2 trips to DC annually. The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $70,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
