Job Summary
The SI Mentor (Tutor Supervisor) will directly supervise and evaluate a team of Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders on a daily and weekly basis. The SI Mentor conducts quality assurance reviews of SI resources, including live sessions and recorded videos. The SI Mentor will also track and report attendance data for the live SI sessions, and he or she will supervise SI Session Question Survey submissions, address student emails and inquiries, and keep accurate and timely records of SI Leader performance. Additionally, the SI Mentor will assist the Online Tutoring Services (OTS) Director with administrative tasks and projects as needed and maintain open communication with supervisors, students, and professors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary Responsibilities (70%)
    • Directly supervise a team of Online SI Leaders on a daily and weekly basis—online and off site of the university campus
      • Edit and post weekly announcements and reminders in each SI Canvas course shell
      • Supervise SI Session Question survey submissions
      • Ensure SI Leaders’ professional and appropriate preparation and fulfillment of SI duties through ongoing supervision and evaluations
      • Observe at least one live SI session per week to perform an informal evaluation
      • Manage live SI session attendance and data recording
      • Supervise the recording of SI sessions and manage video uploads to the appropriate playlists
      • Manage SI Leader weekly reports, data collection, and PowerPoint submissions
      • Keep accurate and timely records of SI Leader performance
    • Address student, faculty, and staff inquiries related to the SI courses they oversee
  • Additional responsibilities (30%)
    • Keep accurate and timely records of tutoring sessions
    • Assist the OTS Director with administrative tasks and projects as needed
    • Maintain open communication with supervisors, students, and professors
  • Remain abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission - Creating Christians for Christ.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The SI Mentor (Tutor Supervisor) will directly supervise and evaluate a team of approximately 5-10 Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma required
  • 1 year of experience in leadership role required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated, dependable, and independent worker
  • Experience in leadership
  • Capable of following written and verbal directions
  • Works well and effectively communicates with students, faculty, and staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A higher education degree
  • 2 years of experience in a formal leadership role
  • 2-4 years of previous office and administrative experience

Communication and Comprehension

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer skills.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

  • May be required to travel.
  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting.  It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.  Working environment may include facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.
